The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for honey exports from Saudi Arabia, with a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, honey exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Jordan (X tons), twofold. Kuwait (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates amounted to +12.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Jordan (-1.7% per year) and Kuwait (+5.4% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for honey exports from Saudi Arabia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Jordan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +11.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Jordan (-2.9% per year) and Kuwait (+7.5% per year).

The average honey export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Mexico, Germany, Egypt, Spain, Thailand, Yemen, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 50%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +35.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Mexico ($X) and Yemen ($X) appeared to be the largest honey suppliers to Saudi Arabia, together comprising 38% of total imports. Pakistan, Spain, China, India, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +44.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average honey import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 27%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Yemen ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
