Lead Market Size in Saudi Arabia

In 2022, the Saudi lead market increased by 36% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Lead Production in Saudi Arabia

In value terms, lead production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, posted a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Saudi Arabia

Lead exports from Saudi Arabia shrank dramatically to X tons in 2022, which is down by -18.4% compared with 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, lead exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for lead exports from Saudi Arabia, accounting for a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, lead exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X tons), fivefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey stood at +83.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+5.1% per year) and India (+9.8% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the key foreign market for lead exports from Saudi Arabia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey amounted to +87.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+21.1% per year) and India (+25.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average lead export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Greece ($X per ton) and Tunisia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+23.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Saudi Arabia

For the third consecutive year, Saudi Arabia recorded decline in overseas purchases of lead, which decreased by -44% to X tons in 2018. Overall, imports showed a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 83%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lead imports shrank markedly to $X in 2018. In general, imports showed a precipitous decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Australia (X tons), India (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) were the main suppliers of lead imports to Saudi Arabia, together accounting for 73% of total imports. South Korea, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +29.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Australia ($X), India ($X) and Tanzania ($X) were the largest lead suppliers to Saudi Arabia, with a combined 73% share of total imports. South Korea, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

In terms of the main suppliers, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +31.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average lead import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Over the last six-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 21%. The import price peaked in 2018 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
