The Saudi soft drink market contracted to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -12.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a remarkable increase. Soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

The exports peaked at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink exports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Jordan (X litres), Yemen (X litres) and Kuwait (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Saudi Arabia, together comprising 67% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kuwait (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Jordan ($X), Yemen ($X) and Kuwait ($X) constituted the largest markets for soft drink exported from Saudi Arabia worldwide, with a combined 69% share of total exports.

The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, with an increase of 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soft drink export price increased by +30.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Bahrain ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of soft drinks decreased by -30.4% to X litres for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X litres in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, soft drink imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Kuwait (X litres) constituted the largest soft drink supplier to Saudi Arabia, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Kuwait exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X litres), threefold. Oman (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kuwait stood at +41.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+66.5% per year) and Oman (+56.1% per year).

In value terms, Switzerland ($X), Kuwait ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest soft drink suppliers to Saudi Arabia, with a combined 43% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, France, Austria, Oman, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates and the UK, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +48.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per litre), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
