Perfume Market Size in Saudi Arabia
After two years of decline, the Saudi perfume market increased by 4.9% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, recorded a mild descent. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Perfume Exports
Exports from Saudi Arabia
In 2022, exports of perfumes and toilet waters from Saudi Arabia dropped markedly to X tons, waning by -37.9% compared with the year before. In general, exports saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 254%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, perfume exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 416%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the main destinations of perfume exports from Saudi Arabia, together comprising 49% of total exports. The United States, Yemen, Singapore, Sudan, Jordan, Bahrain, Nigeria, Egypt, Senegal and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), the United States ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for perfume exported from Saudi Arabia worldwide, together comprising 63% of total exports. Kuwait, Yemen, Oman, Sudan, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
Among the main countries of destination, Yemen, with a CAGR of +31.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average perfume export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 46%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+25.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Perfume Imports
Imports into Saudi Arabia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of perfumes and toilet waters, when their volume increased by 0.4% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, perfume imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to Saudi Arabia, together accounting for 74% of total imports. The UK, the United States, China, Spain, Italy and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +1.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of perfumes and toilet waters to Saudi Arabia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+0.5% per year) and the UK (-5.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average perfume import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 18%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
