Soap Market Size in Saudi Arabia

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Saudi soap market, when its value decreased by -5.2% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 2.7% against the previous year. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for soap exports from Saudi Arabia, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, soap exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Yemen (X tons), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United Arab Emirates amounted to -3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (-6.2% per year) and Yemen (-4.1% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for soap exports from Saudi Arabia, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Yemen, with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates totaled -3.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (-6.4% per year) and Yemen (-10.3% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Germany, the UK, India, Indonesia, Italy, the United States, Bahrain, the Czech Republic, Spain and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +65.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soap to Saudi Arabia, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Jordan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Bahrain, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Jordan (+54.7% per year) and Bahrain (+45.7% per year).

In 2021, the average soap import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -23.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight contraction.
