The UK (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable product exports from Saudi Arabia, accounting for a 19% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable product exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+75.6% per year) and Jordan (-29.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for vegetable product exported from Saudi Arabia were the UK ($X), Belgium ($X) and Jordan ($X), with a combined 36% share of total exports.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +60.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average vegetable product export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -6.3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+590.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Saudi Arabia
In 2021, vegetable product imports into Saudi Arabia shrank sharply to X tons, waning by -28.2% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 105%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable product imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Egypt (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable product to Saudi Arabia, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable product imports from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Sudan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Egypt stood at -13.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+6.0% per year) and Sudan (-6.3% per year).
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable products to Saudi Arabia, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Sudan, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Egypt totaled -7.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+17.7% per year) and Sudan (+2.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average vegetable product import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, vegetable product import price increased by +42.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 78%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Sudan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
