Wallpaper Market Size in Saudi Arabia

For the fourth consecutive year, the Saudi wallpaper market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -35.3% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a noticeable descent. Wallpaper consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of wallpaper and wall coverings exported from Saudi Arabia fell markedly to X tons, reducing by -16.4% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports faced a precipitous descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 152%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wallpaper exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

India (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of wallpaper exports from Saudi Arabia, together comprising 64% of total exports. These countries were followed by Jordan, Kuwait, Yemen and Oman, which together accounted for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +51.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for wallpaper exported from Saudi Arabia were Kuwait ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Egypt ($X), with a combined 59% share of total exports. Jordan, India, Oman and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

Among the main countries of destination, Jordan, with a CAGR of +42.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wallpaper export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 37% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+22.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Saudi Arabia

In 2021, the amount of wallpaper and wall coverings imported into Saudi Arabia fell notably to X tons, declining by -42.1% against 2020 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wallpaper imports plummeted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to Saudi Arabia, together comprising 95% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +5.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, South Korea ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest wallpaper suppliers to Saudi Arabia, with a combined 71% share of total imports.
