Beer Market Size in Scandinavia
The Scandinavia beer market declined slightly to $X in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the market value increased by 9.8% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beer production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 18%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of beer increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight slump. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, beer exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Sweden (X tons) represented the key exporter of beer, making up 64% of total exports. Finland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Norway (X tons). All these countries together held near 36% share of total exports.
Exports from Sweden decreased at an average annual rate of -2.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Norway (+9.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +9.6% from 2012-2022. Finland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Norway (+4.4 p.p.) and Finland (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Sweden saw its share reduced by -6.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest beer supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.
In Sweden, beer exports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (-0.9% per year) and Norway (+12.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7.8%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Scandinavia
For the third consecutive year, Scandinavia recorded growth in purchases abroad of beer, which increased by 0.7% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.8% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, beer imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Sweden (X tons) represented the largest importer of beer, generating 60% of total imports. Norway (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Finland (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to beer imports into Sweden stood at +8.0%. At the same time, Norway (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Finland (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Sweden (+15 p.p.) and Norway (+8.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Finland (-22.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

The import price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
