Cassava Exports
Exports in Scandinavia
In 2022, overseas shipments of cassava increased by 72% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a sharp downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cassava exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 94%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Sweden prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 97% of total exports in 2022. Norway (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Sweden decreased at an average annual rate of -24.5% from 2012 to 2022. Norway (-23.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest cassava supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports.
In Sweden, cassava exports declined by an average annual rate of -18.2% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -49.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 460% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Sweden amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+11.4%).
Cassava Imports
Imports in Scandinavia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of cassava decreased by -11.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, cassava imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.
Imports by Country
Norway was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 61% of total imports. Sweden (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Finland (X tons). All these countries together held near 39% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Norway (with a CAGR of +5.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Norway ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cassava in Scandinavia, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 29% share of total imports.
In Norway, cassava imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+3.1% per year) and Finland (-3.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 15%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
