Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Sweden (X tons) represented the largest exporter of cement clinker, achieving 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons), making up a 13% share of total exports.

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cement clinker exports, with a CAGR of -5.1% from 2012 to 2022. Norway (-16.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sweden (+23 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Norway saw its share reduced by -22.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest cement clinker supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Norway ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.

In Sweden, cement clinker exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2022.

In 2022, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 32% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 44%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement clinker imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Sweden (X tons) represented the key importer of cement clinker, achieving 82% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), creating a 16% share of total imports. Norway (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement clinker imports into Sweden stood at -1.8%. At the same time, Norway (+17.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Finland (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Sweden (+20 p.p.) and Norway (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Finland (-22.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest cement clinker importing markets in Scandinavia were Sweden ($X), Finland ($X) and Norway ($X).

Among the main importing countries, Norway, with a CAGR of +17.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In 2022, the import price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -13.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 388%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
