In 2021, the Scandinavia non-wheat cereal pellets market decreased by -78.3% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 12,144%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 4,878%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) represented the largest exporter of cereal pellets (excluding wheat) in Scandinavia, achieving 100% of total export.

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cereal pellets (excluding wheat) exports, with a CAGR of +177.0% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Sweden (+99 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) also remains the largest non-wheat cereal pellets supplier in Scandinavia.

The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -49.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Sweden.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Sweden amounted to -7.7% per year.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of cereal pellets (excluding wheat), when their volume decreased by -19.5% to X tons. Overall, imports faced a significant decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets imports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Denmark represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 67% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons), making up a 31% share of total imports. Sweden (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Denmark decreased at an average annual rate of -34.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Norway (+39.3%) and Sweden (+35.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +39.3% from 2012-2021. In value terms, the largest non-wheat cereal pellets importing markets in Scandinavia were Denmark ($X), Norway ($X) and Sweden ($X), with a combined 98% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Norway, with a CAGR of +37.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -26.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a remarkable increase. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
