The Scandinavia chlorides market stood at $X in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) was the main importer of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride), creating 52% of total imports. Norway (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 25% share, followed by Denmark (16%) and Finland (6.8%).

Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride). The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Norway ($X per ton) and Finland ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
