In 2021, the amount of cow peas (dry) exported in Scandinavia dropped dramatically to X kg, which is down by -64% against the previous year. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 276%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Denmark (X kg), distantly followed by Sweden (X kg) represented the main exporters of cow peas (dry), together achieving 100% of total exports.

In value terms, the largest cow peas supplying countries in Scandinavia were Denmark ($X) and Sweden ($X).
In terms of the main exporting countries, Denmark, with a CAGR of -5.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 82%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Sweden totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+11.7%).

In 2021, supplies from abroad of cow peas (dry) decreased by -38.9% to X tons for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, cow peas imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 115% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Sweden represented the key importer of cow peas (dry) in Scandinavia, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 66% of total imports in 2021. Norway (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Finland (6.3%) and Denmark (5.8%).
Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cow peas (dry) imports, with a CAGR of +33.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Finland (+30.5%) and Norway (+25.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Denmark (-14.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sweden (+50 p.p.), Norway (+21 p.p.) and Finland (+4.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Denmark saw its share reduced by -76.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cow peas (dry) in Scandinavia, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Norway ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland, with a 9.8% share.
In Sweden, cow peas imports expanded at an average annual rate of +36.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Norway (+28.6% per year) and Finland (+30.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
