The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +14.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 44%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Sweden was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 82% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X tons), generating a 12% share of total exports. The following exporters - Finland (X tons) and Iceland (X tons) - together made up 6.1% of total exports.

Exports from Sweden decreased at an average annual rate of -5.2% from 2012 to 2021. Iceland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Denmark (-7.8%) and Finland (-24.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Sweden (+18 p.p.) and Iceland (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Finland (-19.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest dichloromethane supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Iceland, with a 2.1% share.

In Sweden, dichloromethane exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+1.3% per year) and Iceland (0.0% per year).

Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dichloromethane export price increased by +51.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +82.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Finland was the main importer of dichloromethane (methylene chloride) in Scandinavia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 79% of total imports in 2021. Sweden (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Denmark (X tons). All these countries together held near 16% share of total imports. Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
