Feldspar Market Size in Scandinavia

The Scandinavia feldspar market shrank to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -13.6% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +44.9% against 2014 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, feldspar production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Scandinavia

In 2021, feldspar exports in Scandinavia amounted to X tons, standing approx. at the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, feldspar exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Finland represented the major exporter of feldspar in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 70% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), mixing up a 29% share of total exports.

Finland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of feldspar. At the same time, Sweden (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sweden emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +2.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Sweden (+5.2 p.p.) and Finland (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Finland ($X) remains the largest feldspar supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Finland amounted to +5.0%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 32% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Sweden totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+4.8%).

Feldspar Imports

Imports in Scandinavia

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of feldspar, when their volume increased by 9.5% to X tons. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -21.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Norway prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 84% of total imports in 2021. Sweden (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Denmark (X tons). All these countries together held near 14% share of total imports. Finland (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Norway increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Denmark (+46.7%) and Sweden (+14.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +46.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Finland (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Denmark and Sweden increased by +5.4 and +5.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Norway ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported feldspar in Scandinavia, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Norway was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+9.8% per year) and Finland (-10.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 9.9%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
