The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 60%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Denmark represented the key exporter of food preparations for infants in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), generating a 26% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to baby food exports from Denmark stood at +6.6%. At the same time, Sweden (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby food imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) represented the major importer of food preparations for infants, constituting 58% of total imports. Finland (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Norway (X tons) and Denmark (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 41% share of total imports.

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the food preparations for infants imports, with a CAGR of +7.6% from 2012 to 2021. Norway (-1.9%), Denmark (-3.5%) and Finland (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In Sweden, baby food imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Norway (-0.8% per year) and Finland (-2.6% per year).
