Exports in Scandinavia
Hairpin exports rose markedly to X tons in 2021, increasing by 8.8% on the previous year. Total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -12.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hairpin exports stood at $X in 2021. Total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -13.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 44%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Denmark (X tons) represented the major exporter of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers, comprising 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons) and Norway (X tons), together committing a 31% share of total exports. Finland (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hairpin exports from Denmark stood at +9.8%. At the same time, Norway (+42.8%) and Finland (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Sweden (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Denmark ($X), Sweden ($X) and Norway ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 90% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Norway, with a CAGR of +50.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -7.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 34%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Scandinavia
Hairpin imports expanded notably to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 5.9% on 2020 figures. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hairpin imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Denmark (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the key importers of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers in Scandinavia, together achieving 74% of total imports. Norway (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Finland (10%). Iceland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Iceland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
