As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy steel i-sections exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Denmark was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), creating a 15% share of total exports. Norway (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Iceland (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-alloy steel i-sections exports from Denmark stood at +10.2%. At the same time, Iceland (+56.4%), Sweden (+33.8%) and Finland (+15.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Denmark stood at +11.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+36.1% per year) and Norway (-18.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild reduction. In 2021, overseas purchases of i-sections of non-alloy steel increased by 4.2% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 17%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy steel i-sections imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Denmark (X tons) was the major importer of i-sections of non-alloy steel, comprising 52% of total imports. Sweden (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Norway (14%) and Finland (12%).
Denmark was also the fastest-growing in terms of the i-sections of non-alloy steel imports, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Norway (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Sweden (-1.1%) and Finland (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Denmark increased by +15 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
