In 2021, overseas shipments of iodine, fluorine and bromine were finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Sweden represented the main exporter of iodine, fluorine and bromine in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports resulting at X kg, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Norway (X kg) and Denmark (X kg), together generating a 40% share of total exports.

In 2021, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports in Scandinavia surged to X tons, picking up by 16% on the year before. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +113.1% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Norway represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 87% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), making up a 12% share of total imports.
