In value terms, paper label exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Denmark was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 58% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), constituting a 38% share of total exports. Norway (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Sweden, with a CAGR of +1.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (-1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of labels of paper or paperboard increased by 12% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paper label imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Denmark (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) represented the main importers of labels of paper or paperboard in 2021, accounting for approx. 42% and 30% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons) and Finland (X tons), together mixing up a 27% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest paper label importing markets in Scandinavia were Sweden ($X), Denmark ($X) and Norway ($X), together comprising 86% of total imports.
