The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, public works machinery exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Denmark was the main exporter of machinery for public works and building in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was approx. 46% of total exports in 2021. Finland (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Sweden (X units) and Norway (X units). All these countries together held near 53% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Finland ($X), Denmark ($X) and Sweden ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 96% of total exports.

Finland, with a CAGR of +6.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per unit), while Norway ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, public works machinery imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Norway (X units) and Sweden (X units) prevails in imports structure, together creating 87% of total imports. Denmark (X units) took a 6.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Finland (5.1%). Iceland (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iceland (with a CAGR of +31.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Norway ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 85% of total imports. Finland and Iceland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Iceland, with a CAGR of +25.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 4.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, public works machinery import price increased by +25.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Norway ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
