The Scandinavia millet market dropped to $X in 2022, falling by -9.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, millet production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a sharp descent. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The country with the largest volume of millet production was Finland (X kg), comprising approx. 100% of total volume.

For the tenth consecutive year, Scandinavia recorded decline in overseas shipments of millet, which decreased by -53.9% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a precipitous shrinkage. The smallest decline of -1.7% was in 2017. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, millet exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 19%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Sweden represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons), committing a 20% share of total exports. Finland (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to millet exports from Sweden stood at -14.6%. At the same time, Norway (+18.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Finland (-52.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Sweden (+70 p.p.) and Norway (+19 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Finland (-89.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest millet supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
In Sweden, millet exports shrank by an average annual rate of -15.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (-38.3% per year) and Norway (+15.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, millet export price increased by +49.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+29.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the sixth year in a row, Scandinavia recorded decline in purchases abroad of millet, which decreased by -3.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 60%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, millet imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Sweden dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 91% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons), achieving a 5.2% share of total imports. Finland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the millet imports, with a CAGR of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. Finland (-13.4%) and Norway (-24.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sweden (+48 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Finland and Norway saw its share reduced by -5.2% and -42.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported millet in Scandinavia, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports.
In Sweden, millet imports increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Norway (-19.0% per year) and Finland (-11.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -11.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, millet import price increased by +80.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 39%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.
