In 2021, shipments abroad of motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor decreased by -28.7% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 106% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Denmark (X units) and Sweden (X units) dominates motor structure, together creating 97% of total exports. Norway (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +18.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Denmark ($X) remains the largest motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Denmark stood at +23.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+24.0% per year) and Norway (-18.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -9.5% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, export price for motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor increased by +20.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 59%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Norway ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor, when their volume decreased by -11.2% to X units. Overall, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 31%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Sweden represented the major importing country with an import of around X units, which amounted to 48% of total imports. Finland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by Denmark (20%) and Norway (11%).

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor imports, with a CAGR of -1.8% from 2012 to 2021. Finland (-11.5%), Denmark (-12.0%) and Norway (-13.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Sweden increased by +23 percentage points.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor in Scandinavia, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 13% share.

In Sweden, imports of motorcycles and cycles with an auxiliary motor expanded at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (-7.6% per year) and Denmark (-11.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Scandinavia stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 21% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.7%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+14.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
