Denmark was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), mixing up a 22% share of total exports. Iceland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 244% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paddy rice imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 142% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Sweden (X tons) and Finland (X tons) represented the major importers of paddy rice in 2021, reaching near 43% and 30% of total imports, respectively. Iceland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Norway (7.9%) and Denmark (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Finland (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest paddy rice importing markets in Scandinavia were Finland ($X), Sweden ($X) and Iceland ($X), with a combined 85% share of total imports.

Finland, with a CAGR of +7.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 64% against the previous year.
