The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +99.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Denmark (X units) was the major exporter of pastels, drawing charcoals, writing or drawing chalks, generating 88% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X units), committing an 11% share of total exports.

Denmark was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pastels, drawing charcoals, writing or drawing chalks exports, with a CAGR of +34.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sweden (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Denmark (+46 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Sweden (-45.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Denmark ($X) emerged as the largest drawing chalk supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
