Exports from Sweden increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Norway (+14.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2021, the amount of peas (dry) imported in Scandinavia shrank to X tons, with a decrease of -11.2% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 72%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, dry peas imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Norway dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X tons), mixing up a 7.3% share of total imports. Sweden (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Norway was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peas (dry) imports, with a CAGR of +15.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sweden (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Norway (+16 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Sweden and Denmark saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -14.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Norway ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported peas (dry) in Scandinavia, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports.
In Norway, dry peas imports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Denmark (+0.6% per year) and Sweden (+3.2% per year).
