Polyamide Market Size in Scandinavia

In 2021, the Scandinavia polyamide market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 30%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, polyamide exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a prominent increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Sweden represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons) and Denmark (X tons), together comprising a 24% share of total exports.

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the polyamides (in primary forms) exports, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Finland (+12.6%) and Denmark (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Sweden (+16 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Denmark saw its share reduced by -6.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest polyamide supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Sweden totaled +11.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+12.4% per year) and Finland (+10.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest polyamide importing markets in Scandinavia were Sweden ($X), Finland ($X) and Denmark ($X), with a combined 94% share of total imports.

Sweden, with a CAGR of +7.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Norway ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) and Sweden ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
