Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, railway track fixture imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 43%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Norway (X tons) was the key importer of railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings, mixing up 60% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons) and Denmark (X tons), together committing a 36% share of total imports. Finland (X tons) and Iceland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Norway decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iceland (+26.5%), Denmark (+6.9%) and Sweden (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest railway track fixture importing markets in Scandinavia were Norway ($X), Sweden ($X) and Denmark ($X), together accounting for 93% of total imports. These countries were followed by Finland and Iceland, which together accounted for a further 7%.

Iceland, with a CAGR of +18.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 30% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 52%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
