The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. In 2022, overseas shipments of residues of starch manufacture decreased by -10.2% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 458%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, starch manufacture residues exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 321% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Norway prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), achieving a 6.2% share of total exports. Finland (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to starch manufacture residues exports from Norway stood at +30.4%. At the same time, Finland (+105.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +105.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Sweden (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Norway (+43 p.p.) and Finland (+3.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Sweden saw its share reduced by -47.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In Norway, starch manufacture residues exports increased at an average annual rate of +34.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (-0.9% per year) and Finland (+87.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of residues of starch manufacture, when their volume decreased by -35.8% to X tons. In general, imports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, starch manufacture residues imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Norway was the key importer of residues of starch manufacture in Scandinavia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 70% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), comprising a 26% share of total imports. Finland (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to starch manufacture residues imports into Norway stood at -6.1%. At the same time, Sweden (+4.8%) and Finland (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sweden emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +4.8% from 2012-2022.
