Sweden prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), committing a 9.5% share of total exports. Norway (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pasta and couscous exports from Sweden stood at -3.0%. At the same time, Finland (+25.8%) and Norway (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +25.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Finland (+8.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Sweden (-9.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest pasta and couscous supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports.

In Sweden, pasta and couscous exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (+28.9% per year) and Norway (+3.9% per year).

For the eleventh consecutive year, Scandinavia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of stuffed pasta and couscous, which increased by 11% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.2% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, pasta and couscous imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 20%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Sweden (X tons) represented the major importer of stuffed pasta and couscous, making up 57% of total imports. Finland (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Norway (19%).

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the stuffed pasta and couscous imports, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Finland (+6.8%) and Norway (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Sweden (+4.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Norway saw its share reduced by -5.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported stuffed pasta and couscous in Scandinavia, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.

In Sweden, pasta and couscous imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (+8.0% per year) and Norway (+6.1% per year).
