Exports in Scandinavia

In 2021, overseas shipments of frozen sweet corn were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 69%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Denmark (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) represented the key exporters of frozen sweet corn in Scandinavia, together reaching near 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), creating an 11% share of total exports. Norway (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +9.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Denmark ($X), Sweden ($X) and Finland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 99% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Finland, with a CAGR of +13.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Frozen Sweet Corn Imports

Imports in Scandinavia

After four years of decline, overseas purchases of frozen sweet corn increased by 4.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Sweden (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) represented the largest importer of frozen sweet corn in Scandinavia, committing 80% of total import. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons) and Iceland (X tons), together generating a 20% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Iceland (with a CAGR of +3.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest frozen sweet corn importing markets in Scandinavia were Sweden ($X), Finland ($X) and Denmark ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports. Norway and Iceland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

Norway, with a CAGR of +0.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Norway ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) and Iceland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
