From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, technical textiles exports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Sweden was the largest exporter of textile products and articles for technical uses in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 52% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Denmark (X tons), together committing a 48% share of total exports.

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the textile products and articles for technical uses exports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Norway (+3.6%) and Denmark (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Finland (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Sweden increased by +9.1 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Finland ($X) and Denmark ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 94% of total exports.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +3.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 6.4%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 21%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, technical textiles imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of technical textiles imports in 2021 were Sweden (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Finland (X tons), together finishing at 87% of total import. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons), generating a 12% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +5.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
