Thiosulphates Market Size in Scandinavia

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 388%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, thiosulphates exports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 347%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Denmark (X tons) was the main exporter of thiosulphates, comprising 71% of total exports. Norway (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Sweden (X tons). All these countries together took near 29% share of total exports.

Exports from Denmark increased at an average annual rate of +58.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Norway (+92.6%) and Sweden (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +92.6% from 2012-2021. Denmark (+48 p.p.) and Norway (+23 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Sweden saw its share reduced by -67.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Denmark ($X), Sweden ($X) and Norway ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 99.9% share of total exports.

Norway, with a CAGR of +87.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -28.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+26.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of thiosulphates decreased by -2% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, thiosulphates imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +93.3% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 65%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Denmark (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the largest importers of thiosulphates in 2021, amounting to near 43% and 37% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), generating a 19% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest thiosulphates importing markets in Scandinavia were Denmark ($X), Norway ($X) and Sweden ($X), with a combined 96% share of total imports.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
