Concrete Tile Market Size in Scandinavia

After two years of growth, the Scandinavia concrete tile market decreased by -1.7% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, saw a mild contraction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone decreased by -11.7% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concrete tile exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Sweden dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), comprising a 7.6% share of total exports. Norway (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone exports, with a CAGR of -1.3% from 2012 to 2022. Norway (-6.7%) and Finland (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sweden (+26 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Finland saw its share reduced by -25.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest concrete tile supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports.

In Sweden, concrete tile exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Norway (-7.3% per year) and Finland (-21.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible slump. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concrete tile imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Sweden represented the major importer of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone in Scandinavia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 46% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons) and Finland (X tons), together comprising a 54% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of -0.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone in Scandinavia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.
