Enamels and glazes imports soared to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 23% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, enamels and glazes imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Denmark was the major importer of vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass in Scandinavia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 81% of total imports in 2021. Sweden (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Norway (4.9%). Finland (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Norway, with an 11% share.
In Denmark, enamels and glazes imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+3.0% per year) and Norway (-12.7% per year).
