For the third year in a row, the Scandinavia worked flat glass market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -31.9% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption recorded a abrupt decline. Denmark was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 53% of total exports. Sweden (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Finland (19%) and Norway (8.5%).

Exports from Denmark decreased at an average annual rate of -27.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Finland (+4.5%) and Norway (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +4.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Sweden (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Finland, Sweden and Norway increased by +18, +15 and +7.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Denmark ($X) remains the largest worked flat glass supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Norway, with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Denmark amounted to -13.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+2.2% per year) and Norway (+12.7% per year).

The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 95%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of worked flat glass increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, worked flat glass imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) represented the main importers of worked flat glass in Scandinavia, together accounting for near 73% of total imports. Finland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Norway (12%).

Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
