Sweden was the major exporting country with an export of around X square meters, which amounted to 62% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Norway (X square meters), Denmark (X square meters) and Finland (X square meters), together generating a 38% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to silk fabric exports from Sweden stood at +13.8%. At the same time, Norway (+23.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Sweden stood at +15.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Norway (+23.3% per year) and Finland (-17.1% per year).

In 2021, overseas purchases of woven fabrics of silk or of silk waste decreased by -20.9% to X square meters, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports faced a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silk fabric imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of silk fabric imports in 2021 were Norway (X square meters), Finland (X square meters) and Denmark (X square meters), together recording 86% of total import. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X square meters), creating a 12% share of total imports.
