The Serbian base metal hook market plummeted to $X in 2022, which is down by -19.8% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Base metal hook consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 215% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, base metal hook exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 320%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

North Macedonia (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of base metal hook exports from Serbia, with a combined 74% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by North Macedonia (with a CAGR of +58.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for base metal hook exported from Serbia were Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), North Macedonia ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 67% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, North Macedonia, with a CAGR of +60.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average base metal hook export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 34%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+20.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, base metal hook imports into Serbia shrank to X tons, reducing by -12.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 61%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, base metal hook imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest base metal hook supplier to Serbia, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, base metal hook imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy amounted to +6.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+10.8% per year) and Turkey (-10.1% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets to Serbia, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+11.4% per year) and Turkey (+4.2% per year).

In 2022, the average base metal hook import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+16.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
