In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Serbian trailer and semi-trailer market, when its value decreased by -7.6% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, saw a significant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Trailer And Semi-Trailer Production in Serbia

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 491%. Trailer and semi-trailer production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Serbia

In 2022, exports of cargo trailers and semi-trailers from Serbia surged to X units, growing by 19% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 69%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

France (X units) was the main destination for trailer and semi-trailer exports from Serbia, with a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Croatia (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Bosnia and Herzegovina (X units), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to France stood at +11.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Croatia (+29.9% per year) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+0.9% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for cargo trailers and semi-trailers exports from Serbia, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +8.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+12.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (+62.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+26.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Trailer And Semi-Trailer Imports

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of cargo trailers and semi-trailers, when their volume decreased by -4.8% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 154% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X units) constituted the largest trailer and semi-trailer supplier to Serbia, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X units), threefold. Austria (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+35.8% per year) and Austria (-0.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cargo trailers and semi-trailers to Serbia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +7.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+24.5% per year) and Turkey (+23.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while the price for Slovenia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
