Common Clay Market Size in Serbia

After six years of decline, the Serbian common clay market increased by 49% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a abrupt setback. Common clay consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Common Clay Production in Serbia

In value terms, common clay production fell slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 34%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Serbia

In 2022, shipments abroad of common clay decreased by -58.9% to X tons for the first time since 2013, thus ending a eight-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 84%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, common clay exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Bulgaria (X tons) was the main destination for common clay exports from Serbia, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bulgaria totaled +18.5%.

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) also remains the key foreign market for common clay exports from Serbia.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bulgaria stood at +14.8%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average common clay export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Bulgaria.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Bulgaria amounted to -3.1% per year.

Imports into Serbia

For the fourth year in a row, Serbia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of common clay, which increased by 11% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 108%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, common clay imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of common clay to Serbia, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, common clay imports from Bosnia and Herzegovina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Greece (X tons), more than tenfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bosnia and Herzegovina stood at +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+0.1% per year) and Spain (+134.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest common clay suppliers to Serbia were Spain ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Greece ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +136.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average common clay import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -19.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 135%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
