The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, precious stone and pearl exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,969% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons) was the main destination for precious stone and pearl exports from Serbia, with a approx. 49% share of total exports.
From 2013 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France was relatively modest.
In value terms, Montenegro ($X) remains the key foreign market for cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones exports from Serbia, comprising 2.4% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with less than 0.1% share of total exports.
From 2013 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Montenegro stood at -3.1%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average precious stone and pearl export price amounted to $X per kg, growing by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 1,319%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per kg in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for France.
From 2013 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Montenegro amounted to 0.0% per year.
Imports of Cultured Pearls, Precious Or Semi-Precious Stones
Imports into Serbia
In 2022, overseas purchases of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones decreased by -3.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, precious stone and pearl imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 238% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of precious stone and pearl imports to Serbia, with a combined 42% share of total imports. Turkey, Madagascar, Brazil, India and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest precious stone and pearl suppliers to Serbia, with a combined 20% share of total imports. Hungary, Germany, Turkey, Madagascar and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 1.5%.
Madagascar, with a CAGR of +46.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average precious stone and pearl import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -20.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 298% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+42.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
