For the seventh year in a row, the Serbian fibreboard market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2022. In value terms, fibreboard production dropped slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Serbia

In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of fibreboard were exported from Serbia; which is down by X% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fibreboard exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Montenegro (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of fibreboard exports from Serbia, with a combined X% share of total exports. Italy, Germany, Bulgaria, Croatia, Belgium and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for fibreboard exported from Serbia were Montenegro ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Belgium and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average fibreboard export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, fibreboard export price increased by X% against 2015 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, overseas purchases of fibreboard decreased by X% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2013, thus ending a eight-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, fibreboard imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Romania (X cubic meters), Turkey (X cubic meters) and Germany (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of fibreboard imports to Serbia, with a combined X% share of total imports. Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Poland, Austria and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
