The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle exports rose notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) was the main destination for gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle exports from Serbia, accounting for a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Montenegro (X tons), twofold. North Macedonia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, the average import price for gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 7.3%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
