Meat Dishes Market Size in Serbia

In 2022, the Serbian meat dishes market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a pronounced contraction. Meat dishes consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of meat dishes exported from Serbia reached X tons, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, meat dishes exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +2.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 33%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Montenegro (X tons) were the main destinations of meat dishes exports from Serbia, together comprising 75% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +164.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for meat dishes exported from Serbia were Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), Hungary ($X) and Montenegro ($X), together accounting for 74% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Hungary, with a CAGR of +112.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average meat dishes export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Meat Dishes Imports

Imports into Serbia

After six years of growth, supplies from abroad of meat dishes decreased by -7.7% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, meat dishes imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Croatia (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of meat dishes imports to Serbia, together comprising 61% of total imports. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Poland, Romania and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +64.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat dishes to Serbia, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Croatia amounted to +20.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+7.4% per year) and Hungary (+33.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average meat dishes import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
