Mushroom And Truffle Market Size in Serbia

The Serbian mushroom and truffle market surged to $X in 2022, rising by 24% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Mushroom And Truffle Production in Serbia

In value terms, mushroom and truffle production expanded significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 139%. Mushroom and truffle production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The average yield of mushrooms and truffles in Serbia totaled less than X kg per ha in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Exports from Serbia

In 2022, overseas shipments of mushrooms and truffles decreased by -30.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 280% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mushroom and truffle exports dropped notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 91%. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

North Macedonia (X tons) was the main destination for mushroom and truffle exports from Serbia, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, mushroom and truffle exports to North Macedonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to North Macedonia totaled +46.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+93.2% per year) and Italy (-17.4% per year).

In value terms, North Macedonia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for mushrooms and truffles exports from Serbia, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to North Macedonia amounted to +48.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-15.2% per year) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+84.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average mushroom and truffle export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -65% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 143% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mushroom And Truffle Imports

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of mushrooms and truffles increased by 2,426% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent expansion. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest mushroom and truffle supplier to Serbia, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, mushroom and truffle imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Croatia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland stood at -7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Croatia (+75.6% per year) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+131.2% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of mushrooms and truffles to Serbia, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Croatia ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland stood at +14.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Croatia (+76.7% per year) and Italy (+307.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average mushroom and truffle import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 324%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+23.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
