For the third year in a row, the Serbian plastic tableware and kitchenware market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 8.6% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption posted a significant expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Production of Plastic Tableware And Kitchenware in Serbia

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 206% against the previous year. In 2022, approx. X tons of plastic tableware and kitchenware were exported from Serbia; with a decrease of -14.5% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 115%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 76%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Exports by Country

France (X tons) was the main destination for plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Serbia, accounting for a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Croatia (X tons), with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France totaled +153.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+25.1% per year) and Croatia (+38.0% per year).

In value terms, France ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Croatia ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic tableware and kitchenware exported from Serbia worldwide, together comprising 57% of total exports. Montenegro, Italy, Romania, North Macedonia, Hungary and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +162.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average plastic tableware and kitchenware export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of Plastic Tableware And Kitchenware

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, overseas purchases of plastic tableware and kitchenware decreased by -7.7% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 51%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), China (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic tableware and kitchenware imports to Serbia, together comprising 67% of total imports. Italy, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Romania, Germany, Bangladesh and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +81.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware suppliers to Serbia, with a combined 60% share of total imports. Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Romania and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.

Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +89.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average plastic tableware and kitchenware import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 11%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
