Poultry Market Size in Serbia

The Serbian poultry market was estimated at $X in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Poultry consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Poultry Production in Serbia

In 2022, the average yield of poultry in Serbia stood at X kg per head, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the yield showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X kg per head. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the average poultry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The number of animals slaughtered for poultry production in Serbia expanded significantly to X heads in 2022, growing by X% compared with 2021 figures. In general, the total number of producing animals indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, number of animals slaughtered for poultry production decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the number of producing animals increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, this number reached the peak level at X heads in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, producing animals remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Serbia

In 2022, exports of poultry from Serbia plummeted to X tons, declining by X% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, poultry exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), Montenegro (X tons) and North Macedonia (X tons) were the main destinations of poultry exports from Serbia, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bosnia and Herzegovina (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Montenegro ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and North Macedonia ($X) constituted the largest markets for poultry exported from Serbia worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

The average poultry export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild setback. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Poultry Imports

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, overseas purchases of poultry decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, poultry imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main suppliers of poultry imports to Serbia, with a combined X% share of total imports. Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Sweden, France, Poland and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Italy ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the largest poultry suppliers to Serbia, with a combined X% share of total imports. Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Slovenia, Sweden, Poland and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

The average poultry import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, poultry import price increased by X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
