In value terms, spinach exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 31,145%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for spinach exports from Serbia, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, spinach exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by North Macedonia (X tons), with a 3.1% share.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for spinach exports from Serbia, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Montenegro, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia stood at +21.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+210.7% per year) and Montenegro (+50.9% per year).

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 433% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of spinach to Serbia, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, spinach imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, North Macedonia (X tons), more than tenfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to +52.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: North Macedonia (+105.2% per year) and Poland (+95.1% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spinach to Serbia, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by North Macedonia ($X), with a 3.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy amounted to +56.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: North Macedonia (+115.7% per year) and Poland (+94.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average spinach import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 88%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
