Plastic Supports Market Size in Serbia

In 2022, the Serbian plastic supports market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, the total consumption indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. In value terms, plastic supports production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -3.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 30%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Serbia

In 2022, overseas shipments of spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics increased by 7.7% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 126% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic supports exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 77%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tons), North Macedonia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic supports exports from Serbia, together comprising 57% of total exports. Germany, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +1,378.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Romania ($X) and North Macedonia ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic supports exported from Serbia worldwide, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Germany, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Slovakia and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +1,544.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average plastic supports export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 56%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plastic Supports Imports

Imports into Serbia

In 2022, the amount of spools, cops, bobbins and similar supports of plastics imported into Serbia skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 52% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 115% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, plastic supports imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 103%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Romania (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic supports imports to Serbia, together comprising 67% of total imports. Germany, Portugal, the Czech Republic and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +125.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania ($X), Turkey ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest plastic supports suppliers to Serbia, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Italy, Portugal, the Czech Republic and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

The average plastic supports import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -19.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 72%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
