Cotton Table Linen Market Size in Serbia

The Serbian cotton table linen market declined to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -7% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +66.7% against 2016 indices. Exports from Serbia

In 2022, shipments abroad of table linen of cotton increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton table linen exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Montenegro (X tons) was the main destination for cotton table linen exports from Serbia, with a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton table linen exports to Montenegro exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Croatia (X tons), with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Montenegro totaled +9.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+4.9% per year) and Croatia (+0.6% per year).

In value terms, Montenegro ($X) remains the key foreign market for table linen of cotton exports from Serbia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Croatia, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Montenegro amounted to +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (-2.7% per year) and Croatia (-1.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cotton table linen export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -23.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Serbia

After seven years of growth, supplies from abroad of table linen of cotton decreased by -4.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, cotton table linen imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), India (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of cotton table linen imports to Serbia, together accounting for 83% of total imports. Pakistan, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.9%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Montenegro (with a CAGR of +124.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), India ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest cotton table linen suppliers to Serbia, with a combined 77% share of total imports. Pakistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.6%.

In 2022, the average cotton table linen import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while the price for Montenegro ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
